Downton Farm Appeal Rejected!

The Appeal by New Milton Sand And Gravel, to allow gravel extraction and landfill at Downton Farm, was rejected by the Secretary of State on September 20th!

This news was well received by campaign group DAMAGE (Downton & Milford Against Gravel Extraction). This good news was, however, seen very much a battle won, but not yet the war, as the reason the Inspector gave for rejecting the Appeal, was simply that Downton wasn’t yet in Hampshire’s list of preferred sites, and the Inspector rejected the environmental, traffic, health, and other reasons cited by the campaigners. Indeed Downton Farm has now appeared in the draft version of the Minerals and Waste plan as a preferred site.
